the new drummer’s character trait

In a universe not so far away there was a drummer in a band who liked to state the obvious. If the band started driving on the expressway, heading to a gig 3 hours away he would point out that the old roads might be longer but more rewarding. Smaller towns would come to view whereas the expressway confined their drive to fast food corporate stops that monopolized who had the right to sell food and gas to the captive drivers. “You are so right” said everybody.
.
One time they were about to fly to tour Europe and the guitarist was required to sign a form acknowledging the airline had no liability if her guitar was damaged. The drummer who liked to say the obvious advised the guitarist to sign a blurry no thank you and the rest of the band said “You’re so right.” The airline ticket counter person took the signed waiver without glancing at the signature. Fortunately everything arrived unbroken and they didn’t have to test the strategy of the drummer who said the obvious but they slapped him on the back anyway for his intelligent insight.

The singer wrote the songs on piano then brought them to the band who in turn jammed them out, interpreting together what to do in the performance of each song, sometimes making up new parts. Then they had a hit song. Up until that hit, the band shared their money equally. Following the hit the singer announced a publishing deal and 96% of the income would be kept for himself but the remaining 4 members would each get 1%. Hence if one dollar came in from publishing the singer would be paid 96 cents and the remaining musicians would each get their own penny. The singer was proud of his generosity. The drummer who liked to state the obvious asked why the singer thought this was fair? They traveled together performing the songs – this is why the hit was added to the radio because of the work distributed between them all. Who could say with authority that radio stations added the song because of the song or maybe because of the guitar solo? Maybe they just liked the name of the band or heavens no – could there have been payola involved because the sale of units was lucrative for the label?

The drummer who was hired to replace the drummer who liked to say the obvious partly got the new gig because they were disinclined to state the obvious.
