whistleblowers

guy in the sauna states, you’re a musician right? right, i answer. you know what bugs me? what? when they play a whistleblower on the news and they say the voice has been altered to protect them but it’s just slowed down – who doesn’t know they can speed it up and hear what the voice sounds like for real? and then their cover blown! does that protect anyone? you know this because you’re a musician, you do recording right? yeah i do, it’s just a different speed. you know what else bugs me? what? the brain records everything but it’s lousy at playback. like i have no idea what i did when i was 8 years old but if there was footage of it and you played it to me, it might be like a starter gun and a million memories flood back but you need that little starter gun to get reconnected. wish the brain was better at recall. wish it had a search function. wish it couldn’t hide details. details of what? of anything, like the lost memories. is hiding the right word? i dunno, maybe not. i like to think all the information is intact and still accessible but i don’t know how to get the key and unlock it. i don’t either, i think it’s lost. can’t get them back? that’s right. man i couldn’t live with that if i thought it was true. why? because it would mean living with losing memories. but memories are ethereal no? i’ll tell you what is a memory, it is a song you sing and as long as you are singing it, it is as real as this (hits the wall) or that (kicks at the metal box of hot stones). but in life we don’t get to keep anything, even life itself is rented. did you say rented? yeah. you know what bugs me? what? not believing something is forever. why? if you think things are just for the moment then where is the meaning in it? if everything was meaningless, you couldn’t handle it? yes you got it. i can’t accept a world that is meaningless. you might not have a choice. that’s bullshit. what about war, famine, disasters not to mention slowed down voices of whistleblowers. bullshit, that’s like saying nothing matters.
