There are many complaints about the music business but the musicians I love the most side step all those contests and present music that does something revolutionary. Like the moment in One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest when Jack Nicholson’s character Randell Patrick Murphy, discovers Will Sampson’s character, Chief, can hear and speak but has spent his entire time at the mental institution pretending to be deaf and mute. Everyone else is fighting little battles over authority but Chief side stepped the whole waste of time by pretending to be something which no one doubted or challenged. There’s a message there about understanding corrupt systems, the pointlessness of playing by their rules vs. writing your own.
