to teach or not to teach

Went to York University to check out a couple books from their library, adding new colours to my PhD research. Paul Klee’s The Thinking Eye and Robin James’s book on pop music, feminism and neoliberalism called Resilience and Melancholy. The Klee book was referenced by R. Murray Schafer who’s autobiography I’m also currently reading. He said his book, the Thinking Ear was inspired by Klee’s on visual art. It’s now apparent I have to consume many books each month, necessitating some sort of speed reading talent. James’s book references many pop artists I never studied with seriousness, making playlists in order to appreciate her. In no particular order Lady Gaga, R. Kelly, Atari Teenage Riot, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, Lil Wayne, Rihanna. My class this week has to write a reflection paper of the doc a couple years ago about Nina Simone, What Happened Miss Simone? I think I’m offering a well rounded exploration of song writing, but sometimes it feels like I should rethink the whole thing because their perspective is largely about Drake, The Jonas Brothers, Lizzo and everything else found only on high rotation. Or maybe the better question is can anybody be taught anything from the design of student teacher? Isn’t everything ultimately taught by yourself? Why don’t they offer my course to Philosophy students? The world isn’t fair. Yes it is.
