Standing in line last week for a Covid test, in front of me one of the teachers from my daughter’s school, a woman who fluently speaks four languages. While waiting we talked about kids, asked whether hers play music which led to a confession she isn’t one of those gifted people born lucky. I think she meant if your musical it’s a fluke. Do you ever meet people who think it is amazing that you speak all the languages you do? Oh yes, all the time. Do they ever imply you have a gift? Yes they do. Do you ever think it’s just about being interested in learning but they don’t get it and imagine it is a magical unattainable thing instead of what it is?
