Have to submit the final marks. Some of them failed. Didn’t hand in assignments, didn’t show up for class. I wasn’t expecting to find this difficult but it is. Some of these people are international students, they pay three times as much as the Canadians. I think about $8000 instead of $2500. A lot of them talk about the amazing roads in Canada because back home it’s all dirt roads. I sense funding this opportunity is their parent’s life savings. I know they legitimately failed, I warned them in advance and explained how easy it is to succeed. Can you say “show up and complete the assignment” but some didn’t do their job, yet I don’t want to hit the send button. Don’t want to certify their failure. When Much Muzac added us into high rotation the shows swelled. The whole thing that previously happened in the smaller world now happened in the bigger world and it was filled with the new feature of people packing themselves inside not because of the music but because we’re on television. At least that’s how it seemed to me. As if they were told to be there, as if it was fashionable, as if we were good because we were on tv no matter what we sounded like. It’s the same confusion, I see too many sides to the picture and the parts I find important are in conflict with what others claim as more important. It’s like the sufi story. Is he going to drink the poisoned water and join all the other people in mutual madness or will he stay up in his cave even though it’s deeply lonely living like that.
