The new art show at the Tranzac is by Runt. I hung it with him two weeks ago and it was unlike other shows because he is less attached to the persnickety codes other artists adhere to. Over these months where I’ve been the curator I enjoyed learning how to accommodate everyone, so much so I didn’t anticipate Runt making no fuss about how things align, how straight they appear, etc. I liked it when he said it’ll shift anyway since it is a bar. True. We were finished in fifteen minutes. His words made me feel like we were kindred spirits and like soundcheck, which in my case is a line check. Never interested in pretending the sound person, who never worked with me before, will have any clue how to mix my work once it is showtime. It is just about using their common sense and since I perform solo it’s uncomplicated. I toured one time with someone who sound-checked everyone of their songs and instructed the soundman about many details in each song as if he would know what to do three hours from now. I love seeing how quick I can be. Love seeing the technician surprised when I declare we’re done. Runt’s show is up until the end of January.
