I heard a woman sing at the open stage a few months ago. It was very very amazing. She had the kind of controlled vibrato that make everyone’s eyes go wide. She was young and shy and I thought unaware of her power but everyone knew she was on par with Spiderman. Like the first time one hears Astrid Gilberto sing Girl From Ipanema. Though in Astrid’s case, the superpower is the absence of vibrato. I had a recording idea I wanted to run by her. I also wanted to offer to help record her own work, if she wanted. I found her on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. I tried her at each. No reply, it was weeks ago. Either she doesn’t check them or she thinks I’m a suspicious weird old man. I suppose I am, but not in anything anyone needs to fear. I hope to catch her live again, maybe make my pitch in person. Really extraordinary voice.
