2023 will be 100 years since Hitler was arrested and sentenced to a five year jail term. I thought a hundred years was a long time until I passed fifty, then sixty. Hitler’s time in jail concentrated his writing and he produced Mein Kampf. In my twenties I dated a woman who was a history student. I didn’t understand why, and when I asked she said because she had a great teacher. I liked that answer, realized the truth of it. I also later understood history, like the verb of time, is a great teacher.
