pistols at dawn

Got a letter from someone wanting to have a fight about a song I wrote. It was a very long time ago. They want to convince me that my view is wrong. Their proof was not so convincing but just so that they would take their anger elsewhere, I agreed with them. I like this more. Sometimes, in a performance you play a wrong note. You could stop. You could grimace. You could even tell the crowd I screwed up, I will start again. You could also intentionally repeat the error. People might then think that’s how you play it, which infers they incorrectly assumed they knew better. Spread the confusion around, I like that so much more than agreeing to a duel.
