Losing close friends is always hard but at the same time death is the great reminder to enjoy one’s impermanence. I have a friend who is about 80ish and at this time she has some predictable difficulties. We spoke a long spell today. She is an artist and interprets all her tests and surgeries and physical aids through that lens. Isn’t it neat that my vertebra is fusing she says. We shared similar views about time after she exclaimed how did it all go by so quick? As if we are in a car seeming to still move at ordinary speed, but we all know it’s much faster on the outside than the inside despite the cushy air conditioned seats. Over the telephone I played her the new piece. She called it The Rapids. I think I will keep that name. The previous one Mendelson Joe titled The Idiot. I must make this a regular thing; visual artists telling me what my songs are called whether or not I know myself.
