I finished Salman Rushdie’s Victory City and was left walking on air wishing I could hang out with him and talk about Pampa Kampana. In the current assignment, one student submitted a paper declaring that the history of people writing their history in song, is a recent human occurrence. In my marking I tried gently to infer that activity has a lengthier history and referenced many ancients and their traditions, but wish I could give her a copy of this novel. It might shock and inspire many interesting ideas into her noggin.
