up and down

The songwriting and music business course I previously taught is not available next year. I just found out they replaced it instead with a course about preparing musicians for entering the world of being working musicians. Something like that. I might apply, I like teaching better than being an elevator repair man though I never have repaired an elevator. It was just a stream of consciousness metaphor and I’m going with it. Though I have had a couple favourite elevators, both Winnipeg based. One in a building called the Rosalyn. I used to sneak up onto the roof which was amazing. The other in a building called Bates. Teens would ask if Master Bates lived there. But at the other place where I teach, in the English department, they are likely to keep me in my lyric analysis course and it is fun. Tomorrow I start trying to get them to make metaphors. I hope to ask them to find examples from whatever songs they are listening to. I want to discuss metaphors that do not make you think too widely vs. ones that do. I want them to realize how they already talk in metaphors and try intentionally creating them in their lyrics.
