Tony Dewald

Tony Dewald’s obituary surprised me and was disappointing because the descriptions said nothing about being a monster. Anyone who was there knows that was no man but a monster. Yes, he played drums in Deja Voodoo. The obit was on how great they were, on being pioneers, on Montreal. All true but I was transported to standing there watching them be hilarious and brilliant. He was Charles Laughton being Quasimodo, his tongue probing for air while sweat drowned his face and bashing that kit without cymbals. It was long before anyone ever told me Do You Know The Way to San Jose was sans cymbals. the obit should have told us more about him and not Deja Voodoo in my humble opinion. I met him only a few moments and reveled in what he did. I thanked him and enjoyed sharing the post performance smiles and joy. What beauty.
