Listening to Jesus was a Crossmaker tonight after reading about J.D. Souther’s death. I once read she wrote it about him. I want to see the new doc about Judee Sill, a fascinating person. I didn’t get into her stuff easily. Sometimes that is a very interesting sign. I didn’t get into J.D. Souther’s stuff either but couldn’t help noticing how many people loved and admired him. Warren Zevon too, did not speak to me and later I couldn’t live without him. Souther was a co-writer on much of the Eagles and I never liked the Eagles. I liked Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and The Eagles seemed in a different league, not one I found on par with the other group. They made much more money but so what, is Nickelback better than Gil-Scott Heron because of what their bank account? I put on J.D. Souther’s work again, it is amusing to hear his version of those songs one cannot escape. The famous songs made ubiquitous by The Eagles like New Kid in Town. Hearing his acoustic version a very different experience.
