One guy walked into the Sam Larkin night at the Tranzac last month and he didn’t know anything about the event. He used to live in the neighbourhood 40 years earlier. That night by chance he found himself walking around Bloor and Brunswick and then outside the Tranzac. I noticed he hung out with Kyp Harness as the night went on. It turned out they both used to live at the rooming house across from by The Way run by Mrs. Kowzlowski(?) I think that was what it sounded like. I used to occasionally hear about her from Kyp. Approximately 1984. We were regulars at Fat Albert’s. after the excellent show of performances most left except for a few of us stragglers. We were gabbing into the wee hours. That was when he introduced himself explaining where he used to live and that he even attended Fat Alberts many times. I found it incredible he just happened to walk into the night as if all these people still see each other like we did in 1980 something on a Wednesday at Bloor United in the basement. I loved how his good fortune upon experiencing this mirage added an entire other layer of mysticism to the night. Ron Sexsmith was even and I honoured the request to not advertise him being there because he has so many fans. it kept the night very cool and one more layer of craziness that this guy walked into the space as if nothing ever changed and maybe he was right.
