I read Anthony Hopkins based Hannibal Lecter’s voice on studying Truman Capote, Katherine Hepburn and the computer from 2001 A Space Odyssey/ HAL. Anyone who loved his performance should understand how true those references influenced Hannibal Lector. Like John Lennon taking very obvious inspiration from Peter Green’s song Albatross in the first version of Fleetwood Mac when Lennon wrote Sun King on Abbey Road. I wish someone would pay me to try teaching a course on how to steal and not get caught – meaning how to capture and identify the structure that moves you and then experiment with turning it inside out, sideways, substitutions, replacements blah blah blah until one cannot tell what the original inspiration was. Very unlikely you thought of HAL until Mister Hopkins shares it with you. Such a beautiful piece of robbery because it isn’t.
