Started to work on a song using the Joni Mitchell left hand piano technique which in truth is much older than Blue but she sort of made it all classic, at least to my ears. At the same time I relistened to RAM for the first time in years and loved the way Sir Paul sometimes plays with structural anarchy. I thought I might try a little and so inserted a transition that resembles verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge…but maybe A B C D E. The song starts off about one thing, an old dark thing that happened with dangerous substances and dangerous people but the thing I both love and hate about those early records is how he changes lyrical ideas willy nilly. It isn’t something I usually do which is why I think I should. I will report back later.
