Part of what tickles me in the Jan Cox writings and lectures are the observations that life itself is alive and the inner workings of our social behavior, is not done with independence. From his view, everything going on in the human realm is exactly what life desires because if life is alive, if we are merely cells in life’s body unable to grasp the illusion of our existence, then everything which transpires is exactly as life sees fit. Even the most horrible and painful doesn’t mean anything to the life of life. Life created so many versions of itself which destroy each other, painfully so, yet life proceeds to grow new parts. That means historically whatever horrible despicable things happen, are no different from whatever miraculous and beautiful things also happen. These are not popular ideas….but that only means life isn’t interested in such ideas being popular. Some of the students I teach enjoy announcing that so and so is no good because they don’t seem to care about making their music popular. They don’t seem to believe there are artists who don’t care about measuring their work in terms of popularity. I bet they also don’t understand how some can achieve popularity and feel hindered by it.
