It is amazing how people are fighting about whether free speech is ok. Whether it is alright to have it if it includes saying something horrible. In my teensy singer songwriter way I tried addressing it in the 90s writing about the lawyer who defended white supremacists and neo nazis. I wrote a song making fun of him. The point was if he believed defend those views was an issue of free speech then I too had the free speech to imply he was nuts….and that’s it. My point wasn’t to bring censorship but vote intelligence prevails. I think free speech is still a radical idea. Maybe Leonard Cohen took had it best when he wrote that lyric “democracy is coming…..to the U.S.A.”
