my favourite part of the Judee Sill movie

“But it hurt so much to play stand up bass. I’ve got real thin fingers. Stand up bass is really hard. I used to shoot heroin and be able to playing into long hours in to the night with the lights off. Sometimes I’d feel this sweat running off me and I’d turn on the lights and there’d be blood splattered on the wall. Hopeless heroin addict. I always liked a good bass line you know, good foundation and I met this guy who I’d known at Valley College so I married him because I wanted to learn his licks. I wanted to learn his inversions. I wanted to learn his voicings. Some things boggled my mind about the way he play, so I married him, just to absorb them.”
