At Lynn Miles’s show, between sets I saw Keith Glass in the dressing room. I could tell by his eyes he did not remember me, which is understandable. It was thirty-five years ago, however, we did see each other many times in that other lifetime when he was a prairie Oyster and I a Blue Rodeo. Once recognition dawned, our words had the tone of people recalling rare detours, sneaking into Berlin before the Wall came down or walking through Havana’s music-saturated nights before the tourists arrived and of course the people we had in common. It was then he mentioned Graham Green’s recent death. At first I tried to place what musician he meant but he corrected me, he said the actor who recently died, that Graham Greene. You knew him I asked? He used to do sound for Prairie Oyster. Really? Yeah that’s all he was about. He wasn’t trying to be an actor. He was a sound man. I found that so awesome. I wonder what he was most proud of, Dances With Wolves, Die Hard With A Vengeance soundcheck some Friday at the Matador with Prairie Oyster.
