When it was Mark’s turn to play a song that blew him away he played something by Aurora. He explained what was so unique about this song to him was the fact that she was singing from the point of view of the murdered woman understanding her murderer and feeling sorry for him. I repeated back his interpretation slowly, wanted to ascertain if we were understanding him correctly, hoping if I said it back gradually he might grasp what was disturbing and unsatisfying about the concept. Yes he answered enthusiastically, that’s it – I just really like depressed stuff. I don’t think he knows there’s a whole other layer of depression his answer conjured up.
