Lately taro has become my favourite vegetable. Mashed potatoes, fries, soups and curries, amazing flavour. Still trying to make pickled ginger, the trick I haven’t solved to my satisfaction is what sweetener to use. Tried some with mixed results, want it as enjoyable as what is supplied in Japanese restaurants but would rather not consume products that have ingredient lists featuring science fiction names such as red #43 or unpronounceable chemicals, I’ll figure it out. The mind loves problems like these because they are solvable. It’s so much more anguish when the problem is not based in physical reality like what people think of you or whether you will get the job or why you weren’t invited to the party. Music sort of straddles both worlds, imagining where to go next in a piece is abstract but then actually trying out your ideas is like a biofeedback machine.
