King of The Road came over the airwaves. I played it on the piano when I was ten. It was a cool song to learn but I never took in the details like listening to it last week. The economic information is what got me like lyrics stating pushing a broom for two hours buys a room for rent. Then how much was a room for rent in 1961 and how much was the hobo, Roger Miller’s subject, paid each hour? I started thinking this would be a cool course to pitch to a history class or a political science class, songs that convey economic facts about other times and places which the listener might not necessarily know.
