Was trying to dream up more ways of students imitating writing. Decided next class we will inspect excerpts of Hunter S. Thompson and Bernadine Evaristo and take them apart. Query the author’s sentences topographically and imitate their structure. I searched for games or exercises online but no satisfaction. Started with Augusto Boal videos then many actor/ writer samples, but nothing jumped out. These students with their particular stagefright, slouched posture and frequent phone message checking present a tricky problem to disrupt. But after all, I am a pianist who has many times earlier in life stopped concerts over audience chatter to announce I forgot to share the title and said it is called “shut the fuck up”. Sometimes it worked.
