After I read that Melanie died I thought about how I used to hear that roller skate song when I was a kid. I put it on. It has some greatness to it, her other hits too, but the roller skate song also has a low tech vibe that adds to what is infectious there. Thought about paying it to my music business students but the class had a long interesting conversation about AI and if it can manipulate human emotion. It took up the whole class. Funny because I wanted to query more about the concern of music manipulating emotion. Maybe I still can include listening to Melanie in the next class. Will any of them will have an emotional response? Is it concerning if a human wrote it or a machine? That’s what they want to discuss as radical. Are humans not just machines? That’s secretly what I want to discuss.
