So the brain, without using language or thought, attends to everything in a non verbal way like regulating temperature, responding to injury, overseeing needs for sleep or food or sex. The brain also has within itself a small part where the thinking is located (cerebral cortex behind the forehead) and from that location we see ourselves as the masters of this creature we call Fred or Wilma. We move through life as though the rest of the brain is our brain as if we are separate instead of appreciating “we” do not exist. What we call “I” is part of the brain that the brain is creating. The shadows believe they are not shadows because they are aware of the black outline representing them, therefore they are separate (yes or no). This is also what happened when Cecil Taylor played clusters in concert or Albert Ayler went to Sweden or John Cage enjoyed the music of vacuum cleaners or outside traffic when the interviewer asked him about composition.
