The King ran an ad in Kijiji seeking a songwriter to glorify his greatness. Three responses came in. The first played slide guitar and wrote a catchy chorus not unlike Helen Reddy’s I Am Woman; the second made something more angular with unexpected screaming like Xiu Xiu; the third was a rapper who sampled I Got A Line On You by Spirit then added lyrics about how hard it is to be a political leader these days. The King’s assistant asked which one he liked the most, he replied none of them, but let’s record and release all three anyway. The main thing is recognizing the invisible machine behind my position and power is that all this is perpetuated by keeping the machine well fed less it start looking elsewhere for food or put another way hear me roar in numbers too big to ignore and I know too much to go back and pretend.
